My friend and I got together for 944 shenanigans and Chinese takeout last night. And we did a little exhaust comparison between my stock exhaust, and his Flowmaster 40 Series muffler. I’ll be taking his muffler when he hacks it off for a straight through exhaust!
Here's the difference in sound back to back, literally.

egad both sound awful. I never realized the 944 was missing a good exhaust note.

Im starting to think you dont even have a 944

Maybe that’s why his friend is going straight pipes

Why's that?

How? I'm not sure the phone really did a good job of showing the sound.

YOU NEED A MUFFLER THAT’S THE SAME COLOR AS THE CAR
CHERRY BOMB
Okay, definitely mostly trolling.

Even I know that's trolling at this point. :p

The right 944 sounds like an old man wheezing, and the one on the left sounds like every car in Midnight Club 2.

God damn, that's the truest comment I've read all day. That gets a well earned and deserved star.

Dafuq? My 944 doesn't sound nearly that anemic. What year is yours, again? Also, I think your friend should lose the Euro plate.

its the ‘if a squeeze my cheeks when I fart they vibrate sound’

Mine’s an ‘84. I haven’t heard a stock N/A that doesn’t sound this anemic...Also, my friend has an Irish plate because he’s of Irish decent with an awesome Irish last name so I think it works.

but they do sound good

The additional context definitely makes the plate better. Interesting. Mine’s a stock ‘89. It’s up in storage in Cleveland right now, but I’ll get a clip of it when I get a chance.

So for 1 I’m with Ryan, ditch the euro plate (yeah, I’m Irish too, big whoop wanna fight about it?)
2 I kind of see where Salty (aka Party-vi) is coming from. Flowmaster is wonderful and I love them. I have 2 super 44's on the Montego and they sound amazing.
But Flowmaster doesn’t seem to create the right sounds on engines that aren’t American V8's. I don’t know why but they just don’t work. And I hate saying that because Flowmaster is my favorite exhaust company.
I can’t tell you how long I spent listening to exhausts on youtube trying to pick one, and then trying to find them in person to listen to.

If you are looking for a new exhaust, it is worth it to have a look at dansk, they make replacements sprots exhausts for 944's. I have one on my car and it sounds much better than stock and less raspy than the other car in the vid. The exhaust maintains the stock shape as well and it bolts right on. Shiny stainless steel looks cool as well ;)
Not sure about the availability in the US though.
